We
have two cabins on the farm. The Vermillion Creek cabin is located in the
woods, next to the creek that runs through our farm. We use this cabin in
our school tour programs to show young people what it was like to be a farmer in
the early 1900s. The cabin is also perfect for small groups that want to
get together for a few hours and enjoy each other and the quiet of the woods or
for a wedding. Our
other cabin is located near the barn. There is a lot of history to this cabin. It was built for
Michigan's sesquicentennial celebration and sat on the lawn of the capitol.
After all the celebrating, it was moved to
a park in Lansing, where it was not used. Through a series of phone calls and
meetings, we were able to obtain the cabin and brought it to the farm. It
took us awhile to figure out how all the logs went together. We felt like
we were playing with life size Lincoln Logs. Today, the cabin is used as
the Sugar Shack, where you can purchase coffee, sweet treats and roasted
almonds.
